Shuttle service is provided at night and on weekends. In addition, transportation is provided for field trips, recreational events, athletic programs and all other University functions. Students are urged to use the regular bus transportation for all their transportation needs. However, in the event that a student is stranded due to unforeseen circumstances, a student may call Campus Safety & Security for a JWU Ride home.

Students can use their student ID as a personal pass to get around campus or Rhode Island on the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority, RIPTA. Many Harborside, Gaebe Commons and Edmund Hall transports are provided by RIPTA and are designated on JWU bus schedules.

Services to and from the airport, bus and train stations are provided by utilizing the regularly scheduled JWU and RIPTA buses. All bus schedules are available in residence halls, Campus Safety & Security and at the Transportation Department located on the Harborside Campus.

Commuting students also can use their student ID as a personal pass to get to class on RIPTA. When RIPTA is not available, students can park in the commuter parking lot on the Harborside campus and ride the Campus-2-Campus shuttle, a free ten-minute shuttle service that runs from 6:30am until 7pm, Monday through Thursday, linking the Downcity and Harborside campuses. Parking permits are required and can be obtained from Campus Safety & Security.

All students must show their student ID to ride any RIPTA bus or trolley to get to the shopping centers on the RIPTA system. Consult RIPTA schedules for departure times.

Community service site locations are accessible by using a student ID to get on specified RIPTA routes. For more information regarding community service, please contact the Community Service Center at 401-598-2989.

For more information about University-sponsored transportation or RIPTA, please call the Transportation Department at 401-598-1156 between the hours of 7:00am and 7:00pm, Monday through Friday. Access RIPTA schedules or call RIPTA at 401-781-9400.
